Gnummy-gnummy: Tarantule and Ants for dinner!

Posted by on February 5, 2012

Signori e signore, ladies and gentlemen I am pleased to introduce to you… my dinner:

Starter: Crispy Tarantule served with lime and pepper sauce

Vote: 4/5 …if you manage to overcome the fact that even if they are fried they still feel furry… biting the body will possibly feel even weirder!

Main course A: Stir fried red tree ants with beef and holy basil

Vote: 2/5 …you don’t really feel the ants till they get stuck between your teeth…  still better to have them in your dish than biting your feet!

Main course B: Stir fried chive flowers with back mushroom and crispy bean curd

Vote: 5/5 … pretend to be the Flower-Eating monster of the Muppet Show… and you will enjoy this dish as no body else in the restaurant!

City: Phnom Phen, Cambodia

Where: Romdeng Restaurant

Why: Basically is what you would call eating for a good cause. Wait… the good cause is not exterminating dangerous  and annoying animals! Romdeng is a Cambodian training restaurant run by former street youth and sponsored by Friends-International :)
